Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

"At the center of non-violence stands the principle of love."
-Martin Luther King Jr.

This is the day of tributes. Shambhala Sun has a wonderful tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. posted today, this being the day of his passing. See article here.

I am going to make this posting brief, but in the scope of Buddhist teachings, King is most definitely a bright example of spiritual leadership, where such leadership also lends to critical political and societal activity. His leadership and work was fueled by compassion on monumental levels. King's role in the psyche and progression of the nation cannot be overstated.

A quote from the aforementioned article in Shambhala Sun:

"...King embraced as a Christian much of what a Buddhist would see as the bodhisattva vow..."
